Pnut Jewelry!

i am always saying how lucky i am to have the amazing family and friends that i do. some occasions, grateful as i am, i question if everyone simply gravitates towards that kind of wondrous subjectivity, but then i think about all the people in my life that i am in awe of and beyond words expressing how happy i am to know them. i wonder if anyone feels that way about their clients? it's certainly an argument for staying true to the kind of work you want to do and people you want to work with. i certainly seem to know, and work for & with, the nicest people out there, hands down.

one such client, collaborator, and temporary boss, is Rusty Pitachio, guitarist of legendary NY punk/hardcore group H20, and also Pnut Jewelry! click HERE to see the amazing jewelry he makes, not to mention the great press and famous folks who rock his well crafted adornments!

Rusty found me by way of the incredible Danielle of Vegan Treats Bakery (home of "life-changing desserts", and 8th wonder of the world) and he wanted a new look to brand his web site and business cards based on vintage mechanical, as well as classic botanical, illustrations.

we went through a lot of reference and a lot of fonts (as i believe in options and fine tuning to help realize and craft someone's vision). it was a little, well, intimidating for me to illustrate Rusty's work because, frankly, the photos speak for themselves and the quality work he does.

at first we tried these (please click for a larger view):

then we cleaned things up a bit:

and made our way towards something that could've fallen out of ol' Charles Darwin's sketchbook (that'd be wishful thinking on my part):

it was a lot of fun for me as we worked on the functional, informative parts of the card:

and finally...the final! Rusty found a printer who makes some uniquely shaped and cut business cards. be sure to check out http://pnutjewelry.com/ in the future for new jewelry (and web!) designs
